Welcome to the Jefferson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) information page for the 2025-2026 incoming kindergarten class. We are excited to welcome new families to our community and provide you with essential details to ensure a smooth transition for your child.
Registration
Children who will be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2025, are eligible to start kindergarten in September 2025. To register your child, please visit the Schalmont Central School District’s Student Registration page for detailed instructions and required documentation.
Journey to Jefferson
The “Journey to Jefferson” program is an initiative to help incoming kindergarteners acclimate to their new school. Head to the Journey to Jefferson webpage to sign up for any and/or all of the 4 events put on by the PTO in March 2025.
Orientation
Dates: April 9, 2025 | 6:00 pm
This is a chance for you to come hear all about the Kindergarten program and meet Principal Gifford. You will also learn about the bus/transportation program and meet our school Nurse, Jill Facteau. You will also meet Food Services Director, Maria Zarrillo and PTO officers Julie Dion and Heather Reid. This is an excellent chance for parents to ask any questions before the start of the school year. Parents are encouraged to leave little ones at home if possible as there will be a lot of information given. Please use the Ford Avenue parking lot and entrance (this is by the Jefferson pencil sign) for this event. The play area is directly inside the entrance. This year’s Orientation night will be on April 9, 2025 at 6:00 pm.
Screening
Dates: May 12 – 16, 2025
Kindergarten screening is an exciting first step for incoming Jefferson Elementary students! During this session, children will participate in a series of fun and interactive activities designed to help our staff get to know them better. The screening assesses basic skills in language, motor development, and early literacy to ensure each child receives the best support as they begin their educational journey.
Parents will have an opportunity to meet with school staff, ask questions, and learn more about what to expect in kindergarten. This is a great time to discuss any concerns and ensure a smooth transition for your child.
Families will receive a scheduled appointment time for screening after completing the kindergarten registration process. We can’t wait to welcome our newest Jefferson Sabres!
Summer Tour & Bus Ride
Dates: To be announced (Summer 2025)
Get ready for an exciting preview of kindergarten! The Incoming Kindergarten Summer Tour & Bus Ride is a special event designed to help our newest Jefferson Sabres feel comfortable and confident before the first day of school.
During the tour, incoming kindergarteners and their families will have the chance to:
- Walk through the school and visit a kindergarten classroom
- Meet some of our wonderful teachers and staff
- Learn about the daily kindergarten routine
- Take a short ride on a school bus to experience what it’s like before the big day!
This is a great opportunity for students to ask questions, explore their new environment, and ease any first-day jitters. Parents will also receive important information about the transition to kindergarten.
